(Sept. 29, 2008) A Kansas abortionist faces criminal charges for wrongly
obtaining a second physician's opinion for late-term abortions. Kansas state law
requires a second physician's opinion for such abortions.
George Tiller, whose clients have been known to fly in from around the country to Wichita for late-term abortions, is using various tactics to fight the charges, including claiming that former state's attorney Phil Kline illegally obtained evidence about his activities.
However, current Kansas Attorney General Steve Six said Tuesday that the prosecution of Tiller is moving forward, according to KansasCity.com. Tiller faces 19 criminal charges.
In Kansas, post-viability abortions require that a second physician validate that the mother will face "substantial and irreversible" harm to "a major bodily function" if she does not get an abortion. Tiller allegedly had physician Kristen Neuhaus sign for the abortions.
"The law says the second doctor required to approve the abortion of a viable baby cannot be legally or financially affiliated with the abortionist," Kansas for Life Director Mary Culp explained. "Not only did Tiller repeatedly use Kristen Neuhaus, a doctor twice called a public danger by our board of healing arts, but records indicate that for four years her sole income came from her association with him."
Another controversy surrounding Tiller's abortion business, known for the stench of burning aborted bodies coming from a full-size crematorium at the business, is that the district attorney's office will not pursue charges against Tiller for vehicular assault following an incident in April 2006. Mark Geitzen alleged that Tiller at that time gunned his Jeep and struck Geitzen as he tried to move away from the abortion facility's driveway. Geitzen sustained injuries to his leg and arm.
The news serves as a caution to women in Berwyn, Cicero, Stickney, Riverside, North Riverside, Westchester, Maywood, and other nearby Illinois communities, who need to learn about unscrupulous abortion practitioners before deciding whether to terminate their pregnancies.
